Hey Steve,

I hope your summer is going well. I just wanted to update you on some things.

There has been a lot of growth at PremedNetwork.com. Members from Universities throughout the US have joined, including premed students from Harvard, Stanford, and others. Right now the focus has been on Universities in the US. However, over time I see the site opening up to premed students from all over the world.

It is likely there are premeds from your University who are already members. If you haven’t already joined a group for your University, I suggest you do so and connect with your classmates. If you don’t see a group for your University, just create one. It’s easy and just takes a couple of minutes.

Thus far hundreds of internship, research, volunteer and clinical opportunities have been posted, including some by Dr. Keith Bradley (one of the Featured Members). Over the summer we expect to add several hundred more internship, research, volunteer and clinical opportunities.

In the coming weeks we plan to feature a couple of Harvard surgeons. They will provide the community with career advice, especially for the MCAT.

I’m excited about the free MCAT Program trial Ben Williams (one of the Featured Members) is offering our members. The program was developed by Harvard MDs. See his posts for details:

Let me know if there is anything I can do to serve the community!

Best,

Omar

Welcome to the community Steve. It's great to have you on board!

The vision for PremedNetwork.com is to build a community for professional networking, collaborating, and learning for premeds.

Members tell me there is a lot of potential for the site and that we have a good blueprint. However it seems the biggest issue people have is “Ok, I’m on the site, now what?” LOL. I hear you.

The truth is that ultimately all I can do is provide “elegant organization.” How the community organizes, collaborates, and interacts is up to the members. So there is some degree of The Drunkard’s Walk (a mathematical term that connotates the role of randomness in life).

The coolest thing I’ve seen members do (and most innovative by the way) is to simply post in their status update what they are looking for (premed related, of course). Each time the member has received replies.

We have so many amazing people in the community: physicians, medical students, advisors, and premeds from all over the country. The collective wisdom is incredible.

I recommend members to post what they are looking for in their status update. Here’s to a great future!

Your Commander and Chief (j/k),

Omar
